Business
The business in Juva provides employment for over 2700 people. We do our very best to help the companies in Juva to develop and succeed. 23 per cent of employment is within agriculture and forestry, 21 per cent in manufacturing and processing and 53 per cent in the service sector.
The industrial production in Juva is concentrated around food processing, mechanical processing of timber and printing industry. The biggest businesses in Juva are the printing house WS Bookwell and the food manufacturers Salico and Järvi-Suomen Kalkkuna. On the whole, the different food production chains employ ca 200 people. There are as many as 380 farms in Juva. There are 8340 hectares of land in cultivation, of which 16.4 per cent in organic farming.
Juva is the largest milk producer of the whole of South Savo, with over 150 dairy farms producing 17 million litres of milk per year. We are proud of the large number of organic dairy farms in Juva. Juvan Luomu dairy is processing 2.5 million litres of organic milk yearly.
The people of Juva have always been eager to explore new ideas. The large-scale vegetable production and the production of turkey meat which has recently concentrated here are a proof of this. Some 200 000 turkeys are grown annually at Juva, which consists 14 per cent of the whole production of Finland. 30 per cent of farms also run an additional business, most commonly one related to earth moving and excavation as well as different travel and holiday services.
In the area within less than one hour's drive from Juva, you can find nearly 200 000 people and 40 000 holiday cottages. With a two hours' drive you would reach 700 000 people. Nearly everybody travelling in Eastern Finland will pass Juva; in average 8000 vehicles daily.
The economical potential of this traffic is demonstrated in the rapid development of the Vehmaa area. The number of people stopping at Vehmaa annually is as high as two millions, and still growing. The largest business in the area is the ABC Full Service Station. In addition, there is a car centre, a gardening centre, a large gift shop Q-point and several smaller shops. Altogether, the Vehmaa area employs ca 300 people.
