Juva

Welcome to Juva!

Juva is a bustling community whose economy is based on food industry, forests and tourism. The excellent road and communication network enables Juva to stay up-to-date.

Juva is located near the junction of roads 5 and 14 in the South Savo region in the Province of Eastern Finland. Juva is close to everywhere: the nearest cities are Mikkeli, Savonlinna, Pieksämäki and Varkaus. The distance to Helsinki is 273 km and to St Petersburg 360 km.

Juva has been populated for over 5000 years. The congregation was founded in 1442, and it is the second oldest in the Savo area. Municipal administration was set up in 1868, and the first Local Council was formed in 1911.

Surrounded by the vast and beautiful countryside, the centre of Juva has a lively atmosphere and a good variety of services. The population of Juva is ca 7400, half of which is concentrated in the centre of Juva. In the summer, the holiday-makers of the 2000 holiday cottages liven up the scene in many ways.

The importance of tourism to Juva is increasing.  The main cultural events take place in the summer: Puustock Rock Festival, the concert of Joroinen Music Days in the Juva church and the annual Forest Folk Festival.

Even though Juva is an agricultural centre, it also encourages entrepreneurship. Every third resident of Juva is an entrepreneur. Juva produces  books, clothes, organic dairy products, lettuce, turkey meat and other food supplies. The timber of the forests of Juva also provides work for many people.

Did you notice the birds at the top of the page? These wood sculptures can be found at Vehmaa. This area, by the junction of roads 5 and 14, is rapidly becoming a new service centre providing possibilities for entrepreneurship and attracting travellers. The municipality owns wide areas of land there suitable for building.

More information on the services of Juva can be found on the pages titled 'See, feel and enjoy'. Antti Kinnunen, economical development coordinator, will help you in business matters.
